soon amore (swn y mor) which means "the sound of the sea" in Welsh

soon amore was started in 2002 by two friends who wanted a different sort of choir to those available locally. Based in York, soon amore gradually began to attract singers and, as time went past we moved on from simple songs to more challenging pieces. From 2004 until recently Toby Wardman developed, encouraged and led Soon Amore to improve and to tackle a wider range of music.

We are now working enthusiastically with Graham Bier developing two programmes for 2012. Our next concert on Saturday 4th February at St Helen's Church, York is themed around Love and Longing, whilst the summer one will follow the 1000 year history of English polyphony.

soon amore is indentified as much by the humour we share as we sing as by the quality of the sound. We have an emphasis on choosing unusual or contemporary music, frequently in other languages than English.

Recently we have performed pieces as wide ranging as Three Songs for Capella by Philip Glass, The Beatitudes by Arvo Pärt and The Dove and The Olive Leaf by Bob Chilcott. We are currently working on a programme which will include music by Elgar, Dowland, Holst and many more.
